Since the arrival of smartphones, there has been a significant rise in fatal accidents, and accident-related claims. The urge to check a text message/email, read a post on social media, or make a call directly (i.e. not via the vehicle's Bluetooth system) distracts the driver. The App detects and captures these distractions with the phone for each trip based on events like unlocking the phone and manually using the apps within. Improvement in this behavior alone could prevent accidents and fatalities. Phone Usage is determined based on the duration of the time you physically used the phone while driving, and not the number of times you used it. Phone Usage impact on the score will vary based on % of the trip you were on the phone. If you pull over and or during the trip while still on the phone, that portion of the call duration is ignored since you did the right thing by avoiding further distracted driving.
